Chapter Five

Abby stood up and hugged Tom, she was so excited that he would have all of his magic unlocked, and that she would be there to help him through this time. The only problem was he didn’t hug her back. She looked up into his eyes and saw the fear in them.

“What’s the matter Tom?” she asked him.

“I’m afraid” he said.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be there to help you through this, once you feel the magic running through your body, you will forget to be scared. It’s so freeing and wonderful, you will never be able to go back to being a mortal” she told him.

He nodded and hugged her, “Okay, I’m ready” he said reluctantly.

Abby grabbed his hand and squeezed, letting him know that she was there.

“Well, we cannot do it here, and I don’t think it would be smart to go back to the Other World right now. If Elysia senses me there, she will come after me, and I’m not ready for that” Aibell said.

“Do you have his source?” Jasmine asked.

Aibell nodded, turned around and left the room. Abby wondered what Jasmine meant about source, but she didn’t want anyone to think she was unsure about her magic so she stayed silent and waited for Aibell to return. After a few minutes of everyone standing around silently, Aibell walked back into the room with a jar that contained what looked like a marble that was floating inside of the jar and glowing a bright green.
“What is that?” Tom asked. Abby was glad that he was the one who asked, so that she could pretend she already knew.

“This is your source” Aibell said as she handed the jar to Jasmine.

“This is your magic. Mother had to remove it for you to become mortal” Jasmine explained.

Abby was confused, she had never seen anything like the glowing ball in the jar before, and she had never heard anyone refer to a source before, and she had her magic locked too. She finally had to ask, afraid that if she didn’t she would never know.

“Why didn’t I have a source?” Abby asked.
“Well, you just had your magic locked. You were never actually mortal” Jasmine explained.
Jasmine turned back to her mother and hugged her then walked over to her father and hugged him too. She knew it had to be hard for her to have finally found her mother and then have to leave again so soon, but Abby had a feeling that she would be back to spend time with them once Tom’s powers were completely in place.

Jasmine looked over at her and nodded then the tiny orbs of light came and she disappeared. Abby knew that meant she was ready for them to go to the Other World and after letting Tom hug both of his parents took his hand and closed her eyes guiding them to the castle in the Other World.
Once they landed in the throne room she saw her mother standing next to Jasmine looking at the jar with Tom’s source in it. They both turned as Abby and Tom landed and her mother smiled at her and turned back to Jasmine.

Abby walked over to the couch that was still sitting in the throne room and sat down with Tom, and looked over at him.

“Are you okay? I know this is scary, but it will be great I promise” she told him.
He nodded, “I think I’m okay. I feel like I’m going to blow chunks, but other than that I’m okay” he said.
Abby couldn’t help but laugh and once she started she found that she couldn’t stop. Tom started to laugh next to her, and as she finally stopped laughing she looked up and saw Jasmine and her mother looking at them like they were crazy.

Abby are you okay?” her mother asked her.

Abby let out one last giggle and nodded, “Yes, I’m sorry, Tom said something funny and once I started to laugh, I just couldn’t stop” she said. Tom put both of his arms around her and squeezed. She looked up at him and saw that he was smiling.

“Thanks, that made me feel so much better” Tom whispered in her ear. Abby hugged him back as her mother walked over to them.

“Are you ready Tom?” she asked

Tom nodded and stood up in front of her mother. Abby watched as her mother opened the jar and the green ball slowly floated out of the jar and hung in the air. Abby’s mother then reached over and opened Tom’s mouth gently with her finger, and then she blew the green ball until it disappeared into Tom’s mouth. Tom took a big breath and stood there with his eyes wide open as his body started shake. Bright green and blue lights started to swirl around him and Abby saw her mother back up and stand next to Jasmine.
She stood up off of the couch and walked over to her mother and took a hold of her hand and continued to watch as the bright lights flew around Tom’s body.

“What is happening?” she asked her mother.

“He is about to get his wings. I warn you Abby, it is painful, so he may show some discomfort. It is best if you do not touch him, the magic has to have room to grow within him” her mother answered.

Abby looked back over at Tom just as his body started to rise up into the air, seemingly supported by the swirling lights. Tom lifted his arms up into the air and closed his eyes, and she could tell by his expression that he was starting to feel uncomfortable.

Suddenly he started to scream and arched his back in pain. It was hard for Abby to watch him in pain and not be able to help him. After a few long seconds Tom finally stopped screaming and Abby watched as his shirt ripped and fell away from his body as large wings started to grow from his back. They were nearly as large as Jasmine’s wings but unlike her wings they were multiple colors. They were mostly green with streaks of blue and pink swirled inside of them. The colors had the effect of making the wings look like they were almost aflame.

They were the most beautiful wings she had ever seen and as she watched him start to flex them, felt a longing for the smaller purple wings she had been given for so short of a time. Tom slowly lowered back down until he was once again standing and the blue and green lights stopped moving and absorbed into his skin. Tom looked down at his hands and then back up until he found her and their eyes locked.
“I thought I would be red like you were” he said, smiling. Abby didn’t know what to say so she just smiled back at him.

“I need to lie down” he said before collapsing on the floor.
